Infertility is a ghastly word because of the connotations that are associated with it, but is a term that is generally applied when a couple fail to conceive following unprotected sex over a period of a year to eighteen months. Infertility implies that a woman or a man's reproductive system is defunct, when this is often not the case and can be due to a simple and treatable cause. Older women may automatically assume that their failure to conceive is linked directly to their age, but it is clear that many women over the age of 35 and 40 are able to conceive and give birth to perfectly healthy babies.
Conventional infertility treatments often focus on the actual mechanics of fertilisation, when often the overall condition of the body is the key to successful conception. There are many root causes that can inhibit the processes necessary for fertilisation, such as stress, illness, a hormonal imbalance and poor diet. These are just some of the factors that can affect the organs that all play an important part in the process of reproduction. Poor circulation, for example, can mean that the blood supply to the uterus and the ovaries will be impaired, causing an inability to produce viable eggs, or else an environment within the womb that is not conducive to implantation of a fertilised egg.
The good news is that there are lifestyle changes that you can make to help eliminate the need for all those uncomfortable, invasive tests that are so often part of the infertility diagnosis process.
Many of the chapters in this book will focus on therapies that will help to strengthen and nourish the organs and systems responsible for the intricate process of successful conception, in addition to promoting a general feeling of well-being, which is crucial before, during and after pregnancy.
The aim of this book is to help you maximise your chances of conceiving at any age, taking into consideration all aspects of health and natural therapies to enhance fertility. It is not necessary to practice every therapy recommended within this book and my advice would be to assess your health as a whole initially and then choose a programme that you feel will suit your personal needs.

“This book is a must for any women planning a family, not just those who are experiencing fertility problems. A friend of mine recommended the book and I am now recommending it to everyone I know who is of childbearing age! I thought that I was well-versed on all matters concerning reproduction, but this book has taught me so much more. My husband and I are hoping to try for our third child in the near future and after reading this book, I feel far more prepared than I was with my first two pregnancies. I would like to give a huge thank you to Jan Andersen. I am certain that she has helped many women to successfully achieve a healthy pregnancy.”

“Improving Fertility Naturally is fantastically comprehensive, but readable and is something that I will keep close by as a handy reference. It’s the first book I have read that covers practically every natural method you can think of for increasing your chances of conception and also dispels some of the outdated beliefs about infertility. This book has really opened my mind to all the possibilities and, if nothing else, it has helped me to improve my overall health.”
Melanie, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, UK
“Amazing, inspirational, enlightening, brilliant! These are the best words I can find to describe this book. I feel confident that this book will not only help to reduce the number of couples seeking artificial intervention, but will also help to improve the success rate of those who are embarking on IVF procedures.”
Siobhan, Midwife, Dorset, UK
